AS PART OF MY MORNING DEVOTIONS, I am using the iPhone app from YouVersion entitled "For the Love of God." It is a daily devotion that will take me through the entire Bible over the next 365 days.

Each day has four different portions of Scripture, and also a short devotional written regarding one of the portions for that day. A couple of days back the devotional dealt with Nehemiah. I just finished a sermon series, Brick by Brick, in that book and would have loved to have the following quote, which personally challenged my own thinking and "excuses" in life.

"People do not drift toward holiness. Apart from grace-driven effort, people do not gravitate toward godliness, prayer, obedience to Scripture, faith, and delight in the Lord. We drift toward compromise and call it tolerance; we drift toward disobedience and call it freedom; we drift toward superstition and call it faith. We cherish the indiscipline of lost self-control and call it relaxation; we slouch toward prayerlessness and delude ourselves into thinking we have escaped legalism; we slide toward godlessness and convince ourselves we have been liberated."
